Auburn
76.1

The Math didn't think the Auburn-LSU game was going to be one of the most interesting games of the week because the Math predicted Auburn would win by 32. It turns out Auburn cleared even that line, beating LSU 41-7 at Jordan-Hare.

Mississippi State
68.0

The Bulldogs topped Texas A&M, as QB Dak Prescott threw two TDs and ran for three more, RB Josh Robinson ran for two TDs, and LB Richie Brown thrice picked off Kenny Hill.

Ole Miss
60.6

Ole Miss broke into the Top 5 this week after an interception with 37 seconds remaining on the clock sealed the Rebels' 23-17 victory over Alabama.

Baylor
56.3

Baylor uncharacteristically did not win through the air on Saturday, but the Bears did what they had to do--ramping up their running game, forcing three Texas turnovers, faking a punt, and even returning a blocked field goal for a touchdown--to beat Texas 28-7.

Alabama

Despite losing to Ole Miss, Bama stays put at #5 this week, aided by the fact that the Tide out-rushed the Rebs by 96 yards.

Teams falling out of the Top 25:

  • (#27) LSU (lost 41-7 at Auburn)
  • (#29) Minnesota (bye)
  • (#30) Wisconsin (lost 20-14 at Northwestern)
Teams worse than the average FCS team: UNLV lost to San Jose State last week, falling to 1-5 on the season. Their lone win was a 13-12 squeak-by against Northern Colorado.

Largest improvement in rank: +36 Florida came back in the fourth quarter to beat Tennessee 10-9 in Knoxville, but their rise this week likely has more to do with some early-morning debugging that undid last week's precipitous fall.

Largest drop in rank: -25 North Carolina State started the season with four victories and a close loss to Florida State, but the Wolfpack got dominated at Clemson this week, losing 41-0.

Games to watch next week:

(#1) Auburn at (#2) Mississippi State (3:30 PM EDT, CBS) As #1 and #2, this week's Auburn-Mississippi State matchup is like the National Championship Game come early. The Tigers and Bulldogs are two of the ten undefeated teams remaining, and the victor will be sitting pretty atop the SEC West, though they may have to share that spot with Ole Miss.
Line: Auburn by 6.5

(#3) Ole Miss at (#10) Texas A&M (9:00 PM EDT, ESPN) Like Auburn and Mississippi State, Ole Miss is tied at the top of the SEC West. The Rebels managed to top Bama this week while Texas A&M was bested by the Rebs' cross-state rivals. Expect the Aggies to bounce back this week with their 12th Man providing the crucial difference.
Line: Texas A&M by 0.5

(#7) TCU at (#4) Baylor (3:30 PM EDT, ABC/ESPN2) This is another matchup of two undefeated teams. TCU broke into the Top Ten this week with an upset win over Oklahoma. Can the Horned Frogs repeat at Baylor? Either way, the winner of this game has to be the favorite to win the Big 12.
Line: Baylor by 3.5

(#5) Alabama at (#14) Arkansas (6:00 PM EDT, ESPN) Next week's other intra-SEC West matchup also makes it on our watch list, and Bama should be on upset alert. Though Arkansas is 0-2 in conference, the Razorbacks lost to Texas A&M in overtime and kept it closer against Auburn than LSU did last week. Arkansas is also ranked 7th both in rushing offense and points scored. Alabama's defense could be enough to stop the Razorbacks, provided the Tide is not caught looking ahead to the following week's game against Texas A&M.
Line: Arkansas by 6
