Alabama maintains its #1 spot after trouncing Missouri 42-10.

ESPN's ticker declared that Oklahoma romped Texas 63-21 yesterday. Ignoring the fact that 'romp' is an intransitive verb, that's the reason the Sooners shot up seven places to #2 this week.

Despite a only beating Louisiana Tech by 2, which caused them to lose 3.4 points in the rankings, Texas A&M maintains its #3 spot.

Teams falling out of the Top 25: (#32) West Virginia, (#45) Baylor, (#30) Missouri, (#31) Tennessee

Teams worse than the average FCS team: Eastern Michigan, Idaho, Massachusetts

Largest improvement in rank: Houston rises 31 spots to #71 after beating a so-so UAB squad by 22 and improving to 3-3.

Largest drop in rank: Baylor falls 26 spots to #45 as TCU beats Baylor 49-21, ending the Bears' home game winning streak at nine.

Most consistent team: USC: This week's consistent team is actually good, as USC is ranked #23 and has only one loss on the year to #21 Stanford. They've won all their other games by about the margin you would expect.

Most inconsistent team: Oklahoma State doesn't improve their consistency by only beating Kansas (AKA the worst team in the Big 12) by 6.

Conference Rankings:

Conference Average
Big 12 15.49

Pac-12 5.48
Big Ten 2.29
ACC 1.00
Big East -2.36
Sun Belt -2.48
Conference USA -7.12
Mountain West -7.27
WAC -7.32
MAC -13.31

Games to watch next week: (Assuming you like watching two top-ranked, evenly-matched teams duke it out.)

#4 South Carolina at #8 Florida (TBA) Don't count the Gamecocks out after losing to LSU last week. South Carolina will be playing with a renewed intensity against the unbeaten Florida Gators to keep their dreams of heading to the SEC Championship alive.

#6 Oregon at #13 Arizona State (Thursday 9:00 ESPN) ASU may be slightly under-appreciated in other polls, not quite making the Top 25 in last week's AP and Coaches' Polls. The Sun Devils have one loss on the year and are perfect in-conference so far. We all expect Oregon to win, but this game may be closer than you think.

#5 Texas Tech at #18 TCU (TBA) Both teams are coming off big wins against conference opponents. Both are also 2-1 in-conference and 5-1 overall. It's not outside the realm of possibility that the winner of this game could win the Big 12, if they can also beat Kansas State down the road.
