Week 5 Rankings

Your Top 25:

Texas A&M
33.2

The rankings are impressed by Texas A&M's 58-10 beatdown of an admittedly beatdown-able Arkansas team.  The Aggies' worst game was a 7-point loss to #6 Florida.

2
-1
Alabama
32.7

Alabama slips a spot as it turns in its worst performance of the season so far.  Only beating Ole Miss by 19? C'mon, Tide.

3
+4
Texas
32.1

Texas beats Oklahoma State, about whom the Rankings are still bullish.  More on that below.

4
-2
Oklahoma State
30.5

How can a 2-2 Oklahoma State team be ranked #4?  By losing to good teams like #3 Texas and #21 Arizona and by beating the snot out of the others.

5
+3
South Carolina
28.3

Unlike Texas and Oklahoma State, 5-0 South Carolina is one of the most consistent teams in the FBS.  Out of the Top 25, only Clemson is more consistent than the Gamecocks.  Must be something about the Palmetto State.

Largest improvement in rank: Middle Tennessee State University.  The Sun Belt team rocketed up 30 places to #68 after beating Georgia Tech 49-28.

Largest drop in rank: Illinois.  The Illini dropped 32 spots down to #96 after losing 35-7 to a Penn State team that struggled earlier this season.

Most consistent team: BYU.  Consistently mediocre, but consistent.

Most inconsistent team: Pittsburgh.  The same team lost to FCS Youngstown State by 14 and beat Virginia Tech by 18.  What?

Games to watch next week: (Assuming you like watching two top-ranked, evenly-matched teams duke it out.)

#7 Georgia at #5 South Carolina (7:00 ESPN) Two undefeated teams playing for the top spot of the SEC East.  It doesn't get much better than this.

#15 Nebraska at #26 Ohio State (8:00 ABC) This could be the game that propels Nebraska to the top of the Legends division.  Or it could be the game where the Buckeyes declare unequivocally that they're back.

#21 Arizona at #32 Stanford (3:00 Fox) These two otherwise good teams have struggled lately.  Will one of them use this game to start turning things around?
